China’s foreign trade up 10.7% in Q1

China’s foreign trade in goods reached 9.42 trillion yuan ($1.48 trillion) in the first quarter, up 10.7 percent year-on-year, data from the General Administration of Customs showed on Wednesday.

Exports grew by 13.4 percent on a yearly basis to 5.23 trillion yuan while imports increased by 7.5 percent to 4.19 trillion yuan.

The nation’s trade with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, the European Union, the United States, South Korea, and Japan reached 1.35 trillion yuan, 1.31 trillion yuan, 1.18 trillion yuan, 574.18 billion yuan, and 571.03 billion yuan during the first three months, respectively.

Those trade values above increased by 8.4 percent, 10.2 percent, 9.9 percent, 12.3 percent, and 1.8 percent from a year ago, respectively.

The ASEAN remained the largest trade partner of China in the first three months.

The general trade expanded by 13.9 percent to 5.95 trillion yuan, accounting for 63.2 percent of total foreign trade during the period. The figure was 1.8 percentage points higher over that in the same period last year.
